Our
Squads
Our squad structure provides several progressively graded coaching and training squads catering for each swimmer’s individual needs and long-term development. Training squads are divided according to age, ability, competitive experience and level of commitment to the sport.

Swimmers are normally aged 9-12 when stroke development is still a priority. Swimmers in this group also undertake aerobic training, begin to learn how to pace themselves correctly, are taught race techniques such as starts and turns, and learn how to read a clock, among other good training habits.
Criteria for entry to this coaching group are primarily based on attitude and skill development following a trial. The maximum age for a swimmer in this group is 13.
Swimmers at this level are expected to complete the sessions the coach asks them to and to do at least one weekday morning on a regular basis.
Swimmers who fail to meet the standards in terms of attendance, effort, and performance may be subject to review in terms of their place in the level. The coach may have key sets that swimmers must take part in to track progress at this age due to the squad's lack of competitive availability at younger ages.

Swimmers and parents should notify the coach as soon as possible of any reasons that may affect attendance or training performance.
Competitions are to be discussed with the coach before entry, and swimmers are expected to compete for BMSS at counties, regionals and national events and set the best example in behaviour and practice for the rest of the squad.

During exam periods, swimmers are expected to train at least once a day and notify the coach well in advance of these periods so exemptions can be made.
